We were so pleasantly surprised to find Garvan's! The staff was lovely and the food was delicious. Cute place all around.

Came to Garvan's with a group of friends, some of whom had been here before. Wifey had been here when it was another restaurant, but this was my first time. Very cool atmosphere and the owner was there as the host. Super friendly guy, so we started off on the right foot. We had reservations, so we were seated immediately. Our waitress was over quickly to ask about drinks once we all arrived. Choosing what to order was actually really difficult as there were 5-6 items I really wanted to try. Wifey and decided on sandwiches that we'd split. Wifey ordered the Grilled Cheese (Brie, fig jam, arugula, and sliced granny smith apples on sourdough Texas toast) and I ordered the Corned beef Reuben (corned beef, sauerkraut, thousand island dressing and swiss cheese on marbled rye) and a bowl of clam chowder to start. For drinks Wifey ordered the Wren (I don't remember what was in it) and I had a Nekomata (Basil Hayden Bourbon, Ghost Pepper infused honey, lemon bitters, muddled lemon). Drinks were both very tasty (I needed a second). I'm pretty snobby when it comes to clam chowder, but I have no regrets...full of clams, perfectly cooked potatoes, and an amazing creamy and perfectly seasoned soup. Sandwiches were also great...one of the best Reuben's I've had - thick sliced and juicy corned beef with just the right amount of cheese, sauerkraut, and Russsian dressing. For dessert Wifey and I split the Guinness chocolate cake (Rich Chocolate Cake infused with Guinness, Topped with Whipped Cream Cheese Icing) and each had a coffee. Coffee came in a French press (ooooh, fancy) and both of us wished we had more because it was so good. And come on, how can you go wrong in an Irish place with Guinness chocolate cake?!? Great service, great food, great vibe - 10/10 I'd come back here again.

I just love this place. Been here about three times now and never had anything I didn't like. The restaurant is a very quaint and cozy colonial home, Where you can sit on the porch to eat. The service is excellent, all the waiters know the specials. They bring the food out in a correct manner and when it should be brought out. The food is excellent. I've had a lot of dishes from the flatbread to the steak to the burger and to the crème brûlée. All were excellent dishes. I can't say enough good things about this place. Go, no matter what the cost. It'll be worth it.

Ambiance is so quaint. Toasty fireplace .You feel as if in another time. Service impeccable. Food delicious. Would definitely go back.

Food was amazing Irish fare - loved the Lamb Stew and service with Christopher was top notch. Highly recommend Garvan's vision for a traditional Irish Gastropub.

UNBELIEVABLE experience at Garvan's! Immediately upon entering, we were warmly welcomed by no one other than Garvan himself who shared a pint of perfectly poured Guinness with us! For appetizers, we had the street carrots (amazing recommendation by our waitress, Katie), clam chowder, and Thai chili shrimp. All was enjoyed as it was so tasty. Entrees consisted of the scallops and lamb stew. We were so full of this amazing food, we ordered two of Katie's favorite desserts to-go to enjoy later this evening. Honestly, this is some of the BEST food that we have had in such a long time. I cannot recommend Garvan's enough. We loved the experience and the feeling of a warm, cozy pub. Thank you so much!

Very yummy food and good service. Got the stuffed chicken and it was very well made with mashed potatoes and broccolini. My partner got the short ribs and said they were very good with a tasty glaze. We also had the bananoffee pie that night which had a shortbread crust, toffee, banana slices, and home made whipped cream.

Great food...service...whiskey. A must stop if you're in New Paltz. Try the crab cake. Spectacular.

Our dining adventures with our Vermont friends continued with a memorable dinner at Garvan's (we choose a spot halfway between us to meet for an early dinner, several times a year). THE GROWS: Honestly, I couldn't find much to critique. The service was friendly and attentive, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was lovely. Maybe next time I'll try the Angus burger sliders with Gorgonzola - they sounded amazing too! THE GLOWS: We had a situation with my handicapped mother needing assistance, and the staff rushed to help us with seating - friendly and professional! A+ for service. Our server suggested the street corn carrots for an appetizer, and they were AMAZING! Spiced perfectly, with an aioli that was seriously to-die-for. We also went with their recommendation for the sea scallops entree, which were cooked beautifully. I got the filet mignon special with shrimp scampi. The steak was cooked exactly as requested, and the shrimp were delicious. The short ribs, cooked over 37 hours, were spectacular. We couldn't resist sharing a dessert, and the Biscoff toffee cake did not disappoint! It had a Biscoff cookie base, layers of bananas, homemade caramel, and whipped cream - pure decadence. Apparently, all their desserts are made in-house, which is a major plus. They put out complimentary homemade Irish soda bread. It was so good that I asked for a loaf to-go! If you're looking for a fantastic dining experience in New Paltz, Garvans is a must-try! The food is delicious, the service is top-notch, and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. Highly recommend! -

Nothing short of amazing. We made a reservation outside and it was beautiful. The view of their grass area was perfect for date night and it was screened in to block bugs. Everything we ate was just delicious and the dessert was chefs kiss. Would gladly come here again!
